Motors have different levels of protection. Different equipped equipment and different use places will be equipped with motors with different protection levels.

So what is the protection level?

The motor protection level adopts the IPXX level standard recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Different installation locations have different levels.  The IP protection level system was drafted by the IEC and classifies motors according to their dust and moisture resistance.  The IP protection level consists of two numbers. The first one indicates the degree of dust-proofing of the motor and prevention of intrusion of foreign objects. The second number indicates the degree of sealing of the motor against moisture and waterproof immersion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level. The dustproof level is divided into 7 levels, represented by 0-6 respectively; the waterproof level is divided into 9 levels, represented by 0-8 respectively.

Dustproof level:

0—No protection, no special protection for outside people or objects;

1—It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm from entering the casing, and it can prevent large areas of the human body (such as hands) from accidentally touching live or moving parts in the casing, but it cannot prevent conscious access to these parts;

2—It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm from entering the casing, and prevent fingers from touching live or moving parts in the casing;

3—Can prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm, and can prevent the intrusion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm and contact with internal parts of the appliance;

4—It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1mm from entering the casing, and can prevent tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1mm from intruding and contacting the internal parts of the appliance;

5—It can prevent foreign objects and dust, and can completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects. Although it cannot completely prevent the intrusion of dust, the amount of dust intrusion will not affect the normal operation of the electrical appliance;

6—Can completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects and dust.

waterproof level:

0—No protection, no special protection against water or moisture;

1—It can prevent water droplets from infiltrating, and vertical falling water droplets (such as condensation water) will not cause damage to the motor;

2—When tilted at 15 degrees, it can prevent water droplets from infiltrating, and dripping water will not cause damage to the motor;

3—It can prevent the infiltration of sprayed water, prevent rain or prevent the water sprayed from the direction with an angle less than 60 degrees from the vertical from intruding into the motor and causing damage;

4—It can prevent splashing water from infiltrating and preventing water splashing from all directions from intruding into the motor and causing damage;

5—Can prevent the infiltration of sprayed water, and can prevent low-pressure water spray lasting at least 3 minutes;

6—Can prevent large waves from immersing, and can prevent large amounts of water spray lasting at least 3 minutes;

7—Can prevent water immersion during immersion, and can withstand the effects of immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes;

8—Prevent water immersion when sinking, and prevent the effects of continuous immersion in water with a depth of more than 1 meter.
