1.Indoor and outdoor


Indoor robots with rubber and PU tires can work well. Outdoor robots, due to the inability of PU tires to produce complex patterns and curved surfaces, are unable to work in complex outdoor road environments. Therefore, rubber tires are often chosen for the wheel hub motors of outdoor robots.


2. Visible and invisible


Ordinary rubber tires contain carbon black in their materials, such as cleaning robots, food delivery robots, warehouse handling robots, etc. If they work and stay on a small fixed ground for a long time, they will leave obvious marks on the ground and be difficult to handle, which will cause great trouble for later processing work. But if the proportion of carbon black in rubber tires is appropriately reduced, it can prevent the wheel hub motor from leaving marks on the ground. Thus, there is a distinction between tires with and without marks.


3.Hardness


The impact of tire hardness on robot operation is very significant. Excessive hardness can lead to reduced tire grip, sliding friction, and decreased work efficiency. The hardness is too low, and the tires are easily crushed by the weight of the robot, which accelerates the damage and shortens the lifespan. The lower the hardness, the better the shock absorption effect. Some robot suppliers also try to use tires for shock absorption. But if the hardness is too low, it can also cause additional resistance to the wheel hub motor on the ground, resulting in additional battery loss.


4.Load


For heavy-duty robots, such as the 300kg AMR, flat tire surfaces are usually chosen, and the larger the contact surface with the ground, the better the tire grip. Moreover, the flat tire surface can evenly distribute the weight of the robot, which can delay the time when the tire is crushed. In addition, for indoor heavy-duty robot wheel hub motors, PU material is often chosen because PU material is more resistant to pressure and wear than rubber.


5.Cross-country


For agricultural robots or lawn mowing robots, they require deep tread patterns on the wheel hub motor tires, so they can only choose rubber tires. To achieve off-road and anti-skid functions, it is necessary to customize deeper patterns and wider tire treads.


6.Overcoming obstacles


Robots for field work, such as field surveys and lunar rovers, may need to climb over larger obstacles due to the complex nature of the field environment. Therefore, larger tire diameters are required, and the larger the tire diameter, the stronger the climbing ability. The larger the tire diameter, the higher the cost.


7.Wear-resisting


For robots with 4WD or 6WD or even more drive wheels, due to their differential turning function, higher requirements are placed on tire wear resistance. The higher the hardness of the tire, the better its wear resistance, and the wear resistance of tires with marks will be better than that of tires without marks.

In addition, some robot customers also require tires to have grounding function and anti-static requirements, but this will add additional costs to the robot.
